…made of paper people. It was all just paper. Paper birds. Paper hearts. Paper thoughts. Paper words. Fragile and empty. All could tear at the slightest touch, crumbling into little flakes. Snowflakes. They would cover the ground with a thick sheet of unbreakable ice. Frosting over memory after memory. Freezing the shadows, the light, in an indelible case. A coat. A mask. Made of paper.
